Toronto city has opened registration for more than 11,000 courses and 2350 drop-in winter recreation programs, as well as March break programs this week. Ottawa also opened registration this week on its new improved swim registration system for wintertime swimming and other aquatic activities.
In Toronto, registration is open for Etobicoke York (including York South-Weston), Toronto, East York, North York and Scarborough. The city is also still open to recruiting swim and skating instructors. In September, it had to cancel 540 programs due to a shortfall of qualified professionals.
Ottawa’s new swim registration system comes after several years of complaints from parents and officials about problems with the earlier system, especially when attempting to apply to swim classes.
According to Ottawa, the new registration platform, Register Ottawa, focuses on client experience as a major factor. The new platform allows to search and set filters according to the type of activity, date and time, location, and age groups.
Ottawa city is also offering a new swimming program, following the Canadian Red Cross’s phasing out of swim lessons. Named Swim City, the program offers three different levels according to age levels and skill.
