The 137-m (449.4-ft) Kitsilano Pool, that opened nearly 50 years ago, was closed due to wear and tear and aging infrastructure.
Per a report by CBC, Vancouver mayor Ken Sim says ongoing repairs to the city’s flagship outdoor pool will allow it to open this summer after officials previously said it was not possible.
To restore the pool in time, the people of Vancouver offered technical as well as financial support. The city accepted pro-bono help from construction company Scott Construction and advice from a mining engineer.
Repairs on the pool included digging up ground at the pool, replacing pipes, replacing concrete, and installing a new pool liner.
The aging pool has faced a multitude of issues since being damaged in a storm in January 2022.
