Nominations open for Pleatco’s service tech contest

Pleatco, together with longtime co-sponsor Genesis and new co-sponsor National Swimming Pool Foundation (NSPF), announces the launch of the 2016 search for the best pool and spa/hot tub service technicians.

This year marks the ninth edition of the Pleatco Perfect Pool Guy/Gal competition, which honours the hardworking men and women of the pool and spa/hot tub service industry in the U.S., and Canada, extending as far as Europe. This year, all contest finalists will be awarded the NSPF’s new Advanced Service Technician™ (AST) certification course.

“Since we’ve run this contest, we’ve learned that being a professional pool or spa/hot tub service technician is more than a job. Many homeowners treat their service professional like family; it’s a special relationship,” says Pleatco CEO, Howard Smith. “In most cases, the relationship runs much deeper than that of the mail carrier or local handyperson.”

The service industry is extremely important when it comes to helping owners fully enjoy and appreciate their pools, adds Brian Van Bower, Genesis ambassador and co-founder.

“Skip Phillips (also Genesis ambassador and co-founder) and I started our careers in pool service and it has always been near and dear to our hearts. We are proud to help honour our hard working service professionals through the Pleatco contest,” says Van Bower.

NSPF CEO, Thomas Lachocki, Ph.D., adds: “We are fortunate to be the new co-sponsor of this contest, as the NSPF fully supports initiatives that keep pools safer, open, and assures more people can enjoy the water. We are also pleased to offer our new AST online course as a major prize for each and every finalist to nurture continued growth.”

In addition to the NSPF’s AST certification course ($1,100 value), this year’s Perfect Pool Guy and Gal will be featured in Pleatco’s nationwide advertising campaign, and each will receive a trip for two to the International Pool | Spa | Patio Expo in New Orleans, La., this November. Further, both winners may attend the Genesis Basic Pool Construction Course free of charge ($5,000 value), which will take place at the show.

Winners will be announced on Pleatco’s website and awards will be presented during a gala dinner at the International Pool | Spa | Patio Expo. Last year, more than 250 contestants were nominated.
