Baluch

Jack Layfield, President of Leisure Manufacturing Inc., (Sunrise Spas & Dream Maker Spas) has appointed Ron Baluch as vice-president of sales and marketing. He will be responsible for developing the company’s outside sales team, improving training and communications, providing dealers with business assistance, and creating a comprehensive consumer-marketing program to help dealers compete. Baluch is a well-known sales and marketing professional who has 25 years’ experience in the pool and spa industry as a retailer, manufacturer, and buying group executive.

Melissen (left), Evangelista

The Northeast Spa & Pool Association has announced Hannah Melissen of Chalfont, Pa., and Emmah Evangelista of Collingswood, NJ, as the 2017 H. J. “Duke” Ellington Memorial Scholarship Awardees. Melissen, nominated by Ray Calvitti of Blue Haven Pools & Spas (Hatfield, Pa.), will receive a $3,000 scholarship award. For seven years, she has been a key volunteer for her community’s Relay for Life event raising more than $3 million in support of The American Cancer Society. She has also taken her volunteerism to the global stage by travelling to Thailand to teach English and grammar to young students. After her studies in sociology at Suffolk University, Melissen plans to work with an international young volunteer program. Evangelista, nominated by Aimee Speas of Blue Wave Pools (Audubon, NJ), will receive a $2,000 scholarship award. As a leader in her high school’s National Honor Society, she played a role in selecting the organization’s service project for the 2016-17 school year. This year the students helped support a local family with a child battling leukemia. Evangelista will be attending George Washing University in Washington, D.C.

Spurgin

Michael Spurgin has joined Pleatco as an independent sales representative for the European market. He will be responsible for sales leadership throughout Europe, and will be instrumental in driving the brand and product sales, as well as international strategic planning and implementation for the region. Spurgin has 15 years of technical knowledge and experience in the pool and spa industry across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) with a background in multiple sales channels. He has a master’s degree in international management and a bachelor of arts (BA) (honours) in international business and languages.

Steadman

Zodiac Pool Systems Canada Inc., has hired Michael Steadman as its new territory service manager. He will report to the company’s Canadian service and training manager, Gary Scott. Based in Hamilton, Ont., Steadman will manage service requests for southwestern Ontario. He is a licensed electrician and brings with him practical field experience in servicing and installing Zodiac/Jandy electronics, as he was most recently employed by one of Zodiac’s contract service centres.
