OpenAire’s custom designed retractable-roof enclosure will house Epic Waters, a new indoor waterpark under construction in Grand Prairie, Texas.

Now that the final aluminum rafters on the Epic Waters indoor waterpark in Grand Prairie, Texas are installed, OpenAire, a retractable roof designer based in Oakville, Ont., is set to complete the frame for the park’s cupola.

The installation marks a milestone for the ambitious project called The Epic Grand Central. The 70-ha (172-acre) community centre is being constructed in the heart of the city and will offer residents and tourists alike an indoor/outdoor recreational space. The enclosure will reach 25 m (83 ft) at its peak and house 5759 m2 (62,000 sf) of aquatic space, which will include a number of waterslides.

Epic Waters will offer year-round aquatic fun to thanks to the custom-designed 49- x 117-m (160- x 384-ft) retractable-roof enclosure, which has already become a visible icon on the city skyline.

Once the cupola is in place, OpenAire’s team will begin installing 36 motorized operable roof panels, plus four operable panels above the cupola, which will allow sunlight and fresh air into the facility in the summer, but can be closed quickly at the touch of a button during cold or inclement weather.
