Ottawa waterpark to face TSSA charges in court[1]
The Calypso waterpark in Limoges, Ont., is headed to court in 2014 to face a number of Technical Standards and Safety Act (TSSA) charges for alleged safety violations.

Since opening in 2010, Ottawa’s $45-million Calypso theme waterpark has had a tough go of it; after alleged safety violations, a city moratorium, and various lawsuits, the waterpark now faces trial in 2014.

According to a report in the Ottawa Citizen, the trial is expected to begin on September 8 and run for three weeks. The alleged safety violations include 20 charges under the province’s Technical Standards and Safety Act (TSSA) after a number of incidents were reported on various water slide attractions in 2011 and 2012.

The TSSA’s investigation of the waterpark found various problems, including failure to report serious incidents and inadequate training of staff that were operating the slides.

In addition to the safety violation charges, which have not been proven in court, Calypso is also dealing with multiple lawsuits from patrons who allege they were hurt while visiting the waterpark.
