Outdoor pool in eastern Quebec to undergo $500K renovation

The municipality of Notre-Dame-du-Portage in Quebec is getting $500,000 from the government of Canada, through its infrastructure improvement program, to renovate its heated outdoor pool located on the shores of the St-Lawrence River.

The municipality of Notre-Dame-du-Portage, Que., has been granted $500,000 in financial assistance, in the form of a non-repayable contribution, from the government of Canada, to renovate its outdoor pool.

Located in Rivière-du-Loup RCM, the municipality is implementing development and facilitation projects to revitalize the community. It provides the community with a 25-m (82-ft) outdoor pool. Built in 1965, it is the only public heated saltwater pool on the shores of the St-Lawrence River.

The funding awarded through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150) will help the municipality renovate the building used by bathers, the pool basin, and the protective retaining wall. It will also install splash pads and park furnishings.

“The outdoor saltwater pool is an institution in eastern Quebec, and Canada Economic Development’s contribution is key support for the municipality, which can now carry out its project,” says Vincent More, Mayor of Notre-Dame-du-Portage.

The work will make this community and recreational infrastructure safer and more attractive and accessible to the public.

“Our community infrastructure will be preserved and improved through CIP150 so that Canadians and their families can have cultural, sports and recreation experiences for years to come,” says Rémi Massé, Member of Parliament for Avignon–La Mitis–Matane–Matapédia. “I am proud to see the community of Notre-Dame-du-Portage benefit from this program.”
