The largest indoor pool in Peterborough, Ont., may be closed if the city’s council approves a preliminary plan for millions in renovations at the Peterborough Sports and Wellness Centre.

As reported by The Peterborough Examiner, the plan calls for $3.25 million upgrades to the centre in 2021.

City council has directed staff to prepare an application for nearly $1.054 million in provincial and federal COVID-19 stimulus funding. The city would need to cover the remaining $2.2 million, with about $300,000 set aside already.

If approved, the improvements would include combining three change rooms into one larger area, replacing an aging heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system, and rebuilding the front desk area.

The Examiner also reports city council will vote on the plan on Dec. 14.
