PHTCC offers waste water discharge guidelines[1]
The Pool & Hot Tub Council of Canada (PHTCC) has released its recommended guidelines for managing and controlling residential swimming pool and hot tub waste water discharge, the latest in the council’s series of guidelines and best practices.

In an effort to provide swimming pool and hot tub owners and service providers with reference materials for managing and controlling waste water discharge, the Pool & Hot Tub Council of Canada (PHTCC) has released its recommended guidelines for Water Discharge Best Management Practices (G-0613), the latest in its series of guiding principles for the industry.

This new publication presents four water discharge options and offers recommendations for controlling the pool/spa water’s acidity level (pH) as well as the potential release of chemicals such as chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br), sodium chloride (NaCl) (salt), algaecides/fungicides, nonylphenols and nonylphenol ethoxylates, and copper (Cu).

In addition to providing direction to pool/spa owners and service professionals, these recommended guidelines also provide a stepping stone for those municipalities looking to establish a pool/spa waste water discharge program. Municipalities that already have waste water discharge bylaws in place take precedence over the PHTCC’s guidelines.

To get a copy of these recommended guidelines, visit the PHTCC’s website http://www.poolcouncil.ca/pdf/publications/Water%20Discharge.pdf[2] , and look under ‘Free Resources.’
