The Pool & Hot Tub Council of Canada’s (PHTCC’s) Environment Affairs Policy supports energy saving practices such as thermal insulating covers.

In an effort to promote responsible environmental management best practices, the Pool & Hot Tub Council of Canada (PHTCC) has released its Environmental Affairs Policy, which promotes a series of objectives to minimize the ecological footprint of the aquatic leisure industry.

In issuing this document, which includes policies on building products/materials and construction methods, chemical usage, energy conservation, pool location, manufacturing facilities, permanent closures, public health and safety, retail operations, surrounds, water consumption, water discharge, and the work environment, the PHTCC is committed to leadership in environmental affairs in all its proceedings.

According to the document, which can be used as a reference guide by pool and spa builders, contractors and service companies, the aquatics industry is responsible for the ongoing service and management of more than 60 billion L of water. That said, the PHTCC’s efforts extend beyond the environmentally conscious design, construction and operation of swimming pools, hot tubs, spas, water features, and splash pads to the conservation of resources and elimination of wasteful practices, all while providing its workforce with a safe and healthy workplace.

“The participation level achieved in the development of this document was most impressive,” said Rob Wood, PHTCC executive director, in releasing the document. “It resulted in the creation of a comprehensive, instructive policy that is certainly worthy of support.”
