The National Swimming Pool Foundation’s (NSPF’s) Step Into Swim™ campaign is directing $40,000 to four leading learn-to-swim organizations, which will help to improve public health and reduce drowning by teaching children, adults, and minority populations to swim.

The Step Into Swim™ campaign is directing $40,000 to four leading learn-to-swim organizations, which will help the organization attain its goal of creating one million more swimmers over the next 10 years.

The non-profit agencies the campaign will assist include the American Red Cross, JCC Association, U.S. Swim School Association, and 21st Century Swimming Lessons, which all promote and teach the lifelong, lifesaving, healthy activity of swimming to both children and adults.

“Thanks to the early generosity of industry leaders and private citizens, Step Into Swim is gaining traction. We are pleased to take our first step by taking most of the money that has been donated and giving it to these organizations,” said the National Swimming Pool Foundation’s (NSPF’s) CEO, Thomas M. Lachocki, PhD.

The NSPF organized the Step Into Swim Campaign, which was announced in June (PSM Online, June 14, 2012), and has been matching donations dollar-for-dollar. All of the funds raised go directly to the learn-to-swim agencies.

During the inaugural Step Into Swim congress, which was held during the World Aquatic Health Conference in early October, donations were received from Pool Corp., AllChem Industries, and Arch Chemicals, while others offered commitments to donate before year end.
