A unique partnership between Swimming Canada and Chicken Farmers of Canada looks to promote healthy lifestyles through swimming and well-balanced diets.
Chicken Farmers of Canada represents 2,700 farmers and is responsible for chicken raised and sold commercially in the country. The organization is making a significant financial contribution to the sport of swimming and in turn Swimming Canada will become the first national sport to name fresh Canadian chicken as ‘the official protein of swimming in Canada.”
“This partnership showcases a spirit of co-operation between two organizations that believe in promoting healthy lifestyles,” said Swimming Canada’s director of marketing and events, Chris Wilson.
Dave Janzen, chair of Chicken Farmers of Canada added, “Healthy eating and exercise are important, not only for elite athletes, but for all Canadians. We are proud to be working together on initiatives that promote healthy living and safety around water.”
In recognition of the partnership, Chicken Farmers of Canada has created four mascots known as the ‘Pool Peeps,’ and as part of the official partnership launch, both parties are running a contest to find names for two of the characters. These yet-to-be-named Peeps will join their already-named brothers ‘Kicker’ and ‘Splash’ in future initiatives to encourage young swimmers to practice safe and healthy behavior around water.
To submit name suggestions, e-mail them to namethepeeps@swimming.ca.[2] The deadline for submitting names is June 19.
