This family near Stouffville, Ont., sold their cottage in Muskoka and created this backyard retreat, which features a 5.5- x 14-m (18- x 46-ft) dry-gunite pool equipped with almost every feature and convenience imaginable.
The pool and entertainment complex is located along one side of the home. A large sunroom, which occupies the full width of the house, provides a perfect place to take in all the action in air-conditioned comfort.
The pool, which has a light-grey Armour Quartz interior and is surrounded by Eramosa bullnose coping, has a unique configuration with walk-in access at both ends and the deep section located in the middle. One end features full-width steps, while the other has a 2.4- x 5.5-m (8- x 18-ft) tanning shelf that was finished with grey tile to not only match the pool’s interior, but to also add practicality for reduced water levels during winter.
A waterslide, which is accessed via flagstone steps, along with ledgerock walls built into the hillside, is surrounded with dense plantings to give this space a natural appearance. A massive deck built of sand-blasted Eramosa flagstone set on concrete, permits large gatherings for entertaining or recreational activities with family and friends. The matching ledgerock knee-wall rises were built at the perfect height to provide extra seating.
A large cabana, built to complement the home’s architecture, features a dining area, barbecue kitchen, change room, washroom, and laundry room. It includes a semi-private outdoor shower. The cabana’s covered dining area offers shelter from the elements, while the gas fireplace can provide warmth on cool evenings
