Toronto council has approved a plan to credit swim clubs affected by the closure of the Etobicoke Olympium as it undergoes upgrades for the 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games.

Toronto council has approved a plan that will see swim clubs affected by the Etobicoke Olympium closure credited for their losses as the facility is undergoing upgrades for the 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games.

According to a report by InsideToronto.com, council approved a $181,000 credit to various swim clubs as they suffered financially when the facility’s closed last June. The three clubs affected, The Etobicoke Diving Club ($38,500); the Olympium Synchronized Swim Club ($22,000); and Etobicoke Swimming ($30,000) will receive two credits for each year.

The Olympium, built in 1975, is not slated to reopen until September. It will be used as a practice facility for the Pan Am Games and is currently undergoing a multi-million dollar upgrade, which includes an Olympic-sized pool, dive towers, new signage, and redesigned foyer/lobby, along with major mechanical and electrical updates.
