U.S. water safety and survival franchise expands into Ontario

With more than 130 pools operating throughout the U.S., and one in Turkey, the British Swim School has opened its first two locations in Canada.

British Swim School, a provider of swim teaching methods that prioritize water safety and survival skills, has opened its first locations in Canada.

Specializing in non-traditional infant water safety programs, the swim school, headquartered in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., has opened two corporate-owned locations in Mississauga, Ont., which will operate year-round. One is located at the TownPlace Suites by Marriott, while the other is at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites. Classes are lead from pools in existing fitness chains, hotels, and apartment complexes.

The program focuses on a two-step principle of teaching water safety and survival first, and swimming skill and development second. Students are placed in classes based on skill level with specific objectives. After graduating from a level, students advance to the next one without any waiting periods.

“It was a natural progression to target Canada to enhance our national presence,” says Rita Goldberg, CEO and co-founder of British Swim School. “Canada generally focuses on session-based lessons versus our year-round approach proving the demand for our services. We’re delighted to bring our concept to Canada and confident it will make a positive impact.”

The British Swim School anticipates growth of more than 50 locations across Canada by 2020.
