WhiteWater West’s installation of an alligator-themed water play structure at the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans, La., adds a refreshing amenity area to the popular zoo.

WhiteWater West Industries Ltd., a manufacturer and installer of waterpark attractions in Richmond, B.C., has installed its first splash park at a North American zoo in New Orleans, La., which includes a multi-level interactive water play structure.

The Audubon Zoo’s new splash facility, called ‘Cool Zoo,’ adds a refreshing element to the popular park and includes an alligator-themed focal point comprising a custom-designed, 360-degree AquaPlay structure that mimics the zoo’s rare white alligator named Spot. The feature is 8.5 m (28 ft) tall by 10.1 m (33 ft) long and includes an interactive tipping bucket, which drenches bathers with water as the alligator chomps down. Its tail also doubles as a waterslide.

The company also installed 60 additional features, including interactive tipping cones, jets, spray nozzles, valves, water guns, as well as waterslides, pull ropes and a climbing net. Sound effects with programmable timing were also added to the Cool Zoo’s AquaPlay structure, which was another first for the company.
